Χωριάτικο Σπίτι στο Βουνό
000083 F. Hock(?), A Cottage in the Mountains, n.d., oil on canvas, 70 × 87 cm
A typical, plain landscape is depicted. The first level is occupied by the ground zone, where a path stands out. It starts from the bottom right and its serpentine route disappears into a complex of farmhouses in the background. Three figures—a mother with her child and a man further back—cross the path, enlivening the picture. The land is interrupted by a row of trees and houses in the background, and the overcast sky closes the composition. The landscape, rather fictional, is based on the painter's notes from life. With its simple design and the impasto use of colour, it draws on the tradition of 19th century art, particularly the paintings of the Barbizon School and German Impressionism.
