The painter draws from the great tradition of English landscape painting, without ignoring the lessons of Impressionism and Post-Impressionism. In this simple view of the English countryside, the coast is depicted on the first level. The coastline cuts the sea. Several houses can be seen built near the water, while scattered trees complete the picturesque scene. The design is rough and abstract, without losing a realistic approach. The colours are in rather dull tones as a result of the cloudy sky. The composition is dominated by blues, greys and greens, interrupted only by the warm colours of the rooftops. The work seems to balance between the English tradition (John Constable's landscape painting) and the impressionist trends imported from France.
