The bull drawings that Yialouris produced during the 1990s and around the year 2000 are more directly inspired by Picasso’s work and less by Lorca’s poetry (specifically Lament for Ignacio Sánchez Mejías). The animal, painted on cut cardboard with Indian ink and tempera, is formed through a complex arrangement of lines and planes. Expressionistic, stylized, geometric—it is assembled from gray, brown, blue, and red shapes. It resembles more a child’s drawing or a toy than the proud creature of the bullfight.
