001161 Nikos Yialouris, Angel, n.d., Indian ink on rice paper, 45.5 × 59.5 cm
On the white surface of the paper, a mutilated Angel—one of the most characteristic motifs of Yialouris's mature artistic creation—is depicted in black ink. This drawing does not differ significantly from others. Its importance, however, lies in the following element: the figure is rendered in such a way (with clearly defined black planes, separated by sharp white lines) that the final result resembles a print. Most likely Yialouris here attempted a draft for a linoleum engraving version of the Angel.
